It was great seeing everyone at the National Convention in Philadelphia. I want to thank everyone who contributed to the AAC strand. I thought we had great sessions. The Division Steering Committee (SC) wants to say a special thank you to Janice Light for presenting the Division-sponsored Short Course on “Interventions to Build Communication Competence With Individuals Who Require AAC.” This session focused on research-based practices, which enhance communicative competence for individuals with significant communication disabilities.
In addition, SC would like to thank Ralf Schlosser and Oliver Wendt who presented our Division-sponsored seminar on “Searching for and Finding Evidence in AAC.” This session was a follow-up session to Schlosser’s presentation on evidence-based practice last year during the Convention as well as to his contribution as the guest editor to Perspectives(2003, Volume 12, No. 4), which focused on evidence-based practice in AAC. The SC has placed a focus on evidence-based practice in AAC as a priority issue. We are pleased that Ralf has accepted the position of Chair of the Division’s research committee beginning January 2005.
