This lecture is the fruit of what I consider one of the major intellectual tasks of my life. That is to fathom the causes of dramatic differences in the quality of life of people, particularly people with disabilities, that I have observed and experienced, spending the first half of my life in the former Soviet Union and the rest, successfully building my American dream.
