As an active member of ASHA for over 40 years and one who has served in a number of both appointed and elected positions including the early House of State Delegates and subsequently as a Legislative Councillor, I am concerned that the governance reorientation plan proposed by the Governance Restructure Plan Design Team does not adequately reflect the special interests of ASHA members.
At the 1996 Convention, the Legislative Council (LC) did not accept the proposal for restructuring submitted by the Governance Restructure Design Team or any of the modifications generated during the month of October and November (actually LC22–96 was withdrawn). The LC’s decision was based on a number of factors, but one major concern expressed by several councillors was that the proposals had not been available to the general membership for sufficient time for them to discuss the issues and communicate with their councillors. The LC was wise in allowing us an opportunity to communicate with the Design Team about modifications in their proposal or even suggesting other possible plans for their consideration.
