I want to welcome you to the second issue of the 2005 Perspectives on AAC and highlight some of the functions that are happening within the Division. First, I do want to remind you that this issue as well as each issue of Perspectives may be used for continuing education units. The last few pages of each issue alway provide information on the procedures for receiving continuing education. As I mentioned in the last issue, you must complete 30 contact hours of professional development over a 3-year period in order to maintain your certification. This process is being implemented on a staggered time frame with individuals who were initially certified before January 1, 1980 being the first group to meet this requirement. For this group, the activities must be initiated after January 1, 2005 and completed by December 31, 2007. ASHA is doing everything possible in order to let individuals know when their professional development time period begins so please pay attention to the ASHA mailings or go to the ASHA Web site to find out more information about this policy (www.asha.org/maintain-ccc.htm).
