Hello Division 12 affiliates. We started off the year with a great Leadership Conference on “Early Intervention and AAC, January 23-26 at Sea Island, GA. (see the summary of the Conference in this issue).
Please contact any of the Steering Committee members if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding the conference or the direction of the Division. Information on your Steering Committee may be found on the Division 12 Web site at: http://www.asha.org/about/mem-bership-certification/divs/div_12.htm. If you have not reviewed the Strategic Plan, you may do so online at http://www.fhsu.edu/commdis/steercommittee.html.
Division 12 continues to focus on continuing education opportunities for affiliates. The new standards for the profession go into effect January 2005 (see them on the ASHA Web site (http://www.asha.org/members/slp/slp_standards_new.htm). Standard VII states that members must demonstrate continued professional development in order to maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and will apply to all certificate holders. Individuals will be required to obtain 30 contact hours of professional development over a 3-year period in order to meet this standard. Division 12 provides CEUs for each issue of Perspectives on AAC. We hope that this benefit will help you as you prepare to meet this new requirement.
