This Irish proverb, used by Martine Smith in the opening session of 1998 Biennial Conference of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC), seems appropriate as many of us have just returned from the 1998 ASHA Convention in San Antonio. The literal translation, (“No strength until we come together.”), implies both a physical meeting/networking and a working together for greater strength. In recent years your division's committees have been working to be responsive to the input of affiliates. The San Antonio Convention reflects some of this effort. Another major reflection is in the Long Range Plan provided on pages 13–16, a major topic of discussion at our annual affiliates' meeting at Convention. Another topic of discussion was modifications that will be made in the ASHA Convention format (see page 18).
