Transitional changes occur as students proceed along the continuum from preschool through high school and into adult life. In order for students to meet each sequential challenge effectively, instructors must evaluate progress, provide adaptations, and work collaboratively with students to ensure that instructional means are consistent across settings. Students are encouraged to assume increasing responsibility for their success. Transitions occur not only in the educational setting, but also within the home environment. In order for the student to be successful, communication must occur in all environments, including those in which the family is involved. Ongoing interaction between students, parents, the school staff, and other agencies must occur for the continued development of successful transition across multiple environments.
